Lithographed in color around the rim are stars and stripes shields interspersed with portraits of every Republican Party (GOP) candidate since its inception in 1856 with the date of their candidacy and the words 'Grand Old Party/1856-1908/Standard Bearers, Fremont 1856; Lincoln 1860-1864; Grant 1868-1872; Hayes 1876; Garfield 1880; Arthur 1881, Blaine 1884; Harrison 1888-1892; McKinley 1896; Roosevelt 1901-1904.'
