General Election 2010: Campaigning continues: Clegg press conference attacks bankers; ENGLAND: London: INT Nick Clegg (Liberal Democrats Leader) press conference SOT - Allegations about alleged fraud in Goldman Sachs are extraordinarily serious / they are a remimder of the recklessness and greed that disfigured the banking industry as a whole / we believe that Goldman Sachs should now be suspended in its role as one of the advisors to the government until these allegations are properly looked into / why is it that still no fundamental reforms of the banking system has taken place / still the government refuses to split up the banks / still the Conservatives refuse to advocate the major stuctural changes which we believe are necessary to make our banking system safe so it never again blows up in the face of the British people / for too long governments obsessed with protecting, cossetting and oding special favours for one square mile of the British economy - the City of London - rather than serving the interests of the 100,000 square miles of the country as a whole / as politics in this country has been captured for too long by a small clique of people from the establishment parties which have been able to stitch up the rules together to serve their own interests, so in a similar fashion the banking system had become captive to a small clique of vested interests, who ran the system for their own benefit and not for the benefit of the wider economy / power has been concentrated in a few super banks (superbanks) / the building societies, the regional banks have been swallowed up / accessing equity investment can be almost impossible these days / trying to grow businesses without money is like trying to grow plants without soil / putting forward a totally different approach to the financial system as a whole, a different ecology of banking / more mutuals / if a good return can be safeguarded for the taxpayer Northern Rock should be re-mutualised / a post office ba...
