Senator Grassley Floor Statement on Sessions Attorney General Nomination

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley of Iowa opens debate after the Senate voted to limit floor time on the nomination of colleague Senator Jeff Sessions to be Attorney General of the United States. Grassley gives Sessions his support, describes the deliberative process in the Committee, agrees with another Senator that it appears no Republican could ever earn Democrat support, saying he can boil their objections down to being unwilling to take Sessions at his word, his legislative record on voting rights, but that Sessions knows the role of senator and the role of attorney general are very, very different, and Senator Sessions understands the difference better than most.
