GREECE-TURKEY-ITALY-IMMIGRATION

TO GO WITH AFP STORY BY SOPHIE MAKRIS Immigrants rest on March 12, 2013 on a road on the Greek island of Lesvos. With a population of 85,000, Lesvos -- Greece's third-largest island and regional capital of the northern Aegean -- is, at first glance, worlds apart from Italy's tiny island Lampedusa which has recently been the home of two migrant tragedies. But the two islands have one thing in common: they both serve as a gateway to the European Union. Each week, hordes of migrants reach Lesvos, an island located some 20 kms (13 miles) across the Turkish coast which hardly has the infrastructure to host them.
