El Sukenik Studies Fragment of Scrolls
(Original Caption) 1948: Professor Eleazer L. Sukenik, Dir. of the Hebrew University' Museum of Jewish Antiquities, studies a fragment of one of the ancient Hebrew Scrolls which were found by Bedouin nomads in the Judean desert near the Dead Sea and which he was the first to reveal to the scientific and scholar world. Negotiations for purchase of the scrolls were conducted while the area was being shelled. Some of the srolls were subsequently displayed at he Library of Congress in Washington, DC.
