Medical Officers Inspecting Concentration Camp Corpses

Scenes like this greeted troops of the U.S. 7th Army at the Dachau Concentration Camp, most infamous of the Nazi concentration camps, which the American liberated in their victorious drive through Germany. Thousands of starved corpses were piled nearly to the roof of outhouses awaiting cremation and thousands living went wild with joy as they saw the GIs crash into their prison camp. Here three medical corpsmen look over the piled bodies lying in a wagon. They have been evacuated from other camps and were consigned to the crematorium.
