The Statue of Liberty or Liberty Enlightening the World is a colossal neoclassical sculpture on Liberty Island. The copper statue, designed by Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi, a French sculptor, was built by Gustave Eiffel and dedicated on October 28, 1886.
