The Gravensteen is a medieval castle built in the twelfth century to become the seat of the Counts of Flanders. Over the centuries it housed a courthouse and a prison, then decayed until the 1885, when the city of Ghent bought and renovated it. Now it can be visited, and admire the city from above.
