Integration at the University of Georgia
African American students Charlayne Hunter and Hamilton Holmes leave the campus of the University of Georgia after they registered for classes, January 9, 1961. During the day, a judge ordered a stay in the integration order he himself had signed the week before, but the stay order was thrown out by the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. As a result, the two African American students were able to attend classes the next day.
