OBUAMA, NIGERIA: Alhaji Dokubo Asari, leader of the militant National Delta Youths Volunteer Force listens to complaints from his volunteer force in Obuama, 16 May 2005. Dokubo and thousands of his supporters were prevented by security operatives from entering Kaiama to participate in the carnival to honour late Major Isaac Boro and sustain his struggle for the socio-economic liberation of the Ijaws in Niger Delta. Major Boro led a 12-day armed struggle against the Nigerian government in the 1960s to protest social injustice and oppression by the large international oil companies against the Ijaw indigenous communitites.
