American Skater Celebrating After Win
(Original Caption) 2/2/1956-Cortina, Italy- Jubilant Tenley Albright leaps into the arms of her trainer, Dr. Guiseppe Gasparini, after winning the Olympic figure skating title at Cortina. The 20-year-old star from Newton, MA., despite a painful ankle injury, turned in an almost-flawless performance in the free style to clinch the victory for the US and became the first American ever to win this event. Carol Ann Heiss,16, of Ozone Park, NY., finished second and Ingrid Wendl, of Austria, the European Champion, placed third.
