Dr Ferdinand Porsche. Ferdinand 'Ferry' Porsche founded the sports car manufacturing company which bears his name in 1948. As well as producing a string of best-selling road sports cars including the 356 and the 911, Porsche had a long and highly successful association with sportscar racing, dating from their first entry at Le Mans in 1951, when the car won its class.
