FA Cup Final - Wanderers v Royal Engineers - Winners Medal
A gold winner's medal from the first Football Association Challenge Cup final played at the Kennington Oval in London before a crowd of 2,000 between the Wanderers Football Club, captained by Charles William Alcock, and the Royal Engineers on 16th March 1872. The Wanderers won 1-0. Each of the Wanderers received a medal but the identity of this player is not known. In his role as the honorary secretary of the Football Association, Charles Alcock was the man credited with the original plan to hold a Challenge Cup Final on an annual basis.
