NICARAGUA-HEALTH-DENGUE

A nurse checks the fluids applied to a child suffering from dengue fever in a room of "La Mascota" hospital in Managua, on October 30, 2013. The Nicaraguan government issued a health red alert as a dengue fever epidemic has killed 14 people so far this year and infected more than 5,000 individuals. Dengue, transmitted by the Aedes aegypti mosquito, occurs in Central America mostly during its rainy season from May to November. The disease causes fever, muscle and joint ache as well as potentially fatal dengue hemorrhagic fever and dengue shock syndrome.
