The president of the NGO Committee of Relatives of the Disappeared in Honduras (COFADEH), Bertha Oliva, lays a wreath on an alter in memory of murdered indigenous Honduran environmentalist Berta Caceres, in La Esperanza, 180 km west of Tegucigalpa, in the first anniversary of her death on March 4, 2017. The head of the National Council of Popular and Indigenous Organizations of Honduras (COPINH), Berta Caceres was killed on March 3, 2016. Before her death, the activist leader had opposed plans by the company Desarrollos Energeticos to build a hydroelectric dam across a river on which indigenous communities were dependent.
