These Islets are part of the Endocrine System that secretes hormones into the blood--the islets are well supplied with blood. Several different kinds of cells are found in the Islets. ALPHA CELLS secrete Glucagon. BETA CELLS secrete Insulin. DELTA CELLS secrete Somatostatin. The surrounding tissue (purple) is the EXOCRINE portion of the Pancreas that secretes digestive enzymes into ducts that empty into the Pancreatic Duct, which in turn delivers enzymes to the small intestine (duodenum).
