People watch first presidential debate between Trump and Harris in Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, UNITED STATES (SEPTEMBER 10, 2024 : People watch the first debate between US Vice President Kamala Harris and former US President Donald Trump in Charlotte, US, on Tuesday, September 10. In this 2024 US presidential election, immigration has been a hot topic throughout the campaign and one that both candidates addressed during the ABC debate, as both candidates have dealt with migration issues while in office. Harris worked on the root cause of migration in Central American nations while vice president under the Biden administration, and Trump as president installed replacement and some new fencing along the US-Mexico border, as well as tough immigration measures by executive order during his presidency, such as the Title 42 border health policy, which is no longer in place - now replaced by a June 2024 executive order by President Joe Biden limiting asylum to a cap at the border.(Footage by Peter Zay /Anadolu Agency via Getty Images)
