Super blue blood moon rises behind the Acropolis of Athens
Stargazers in Athens had the chance to witness a rare 'Super Blue Blood Moon' rising behind the Parthenon temple on the Acropolis of Athens. Tonight the earth shadow bathed our satellite in a coppery hue, that is the 'blood moon' due to the lunar eclipse. A 'super moon' because the moon is at its closest approach to the earth, thus appearing larger and brighter than usual. 'Blue Moon' is the second full moon in a calendar month. This collision of lunar phenomena, that is a super moon, a blue moon and a lunar eclipse occurred simultaneously tonight, in an unusual event that hasn’t happened in over 150 years.
