Sarawak longhouse

The native Iban or Dayak people of Sarawak on the island of Borneo live collectively in what are known as longhouses. Each family has its own living area, which is known as a 'door.' But the inhabitants spend most of their time in the long, common veranda: looking after their children, eating, doing handicrafts, repairing their fishing nets. The longhouses are reached by longboat.
