Reich Citizen "King" Faces Trial For Fraud
HALLE, GERMANY - OCTOBER 21: Peter Fitzek, the self-proclaimed "King" of the Reich citizen movement, arrives for the second day of his trial for fraud at the Landgericht courthouse on October 21, 2016 in Halle, Germany. Fitzek is accused of having collected EUR 1.7 million from fellow Reich citizens in the name of starting an unlicensed bank independent of the German financial system but then using the money for his own ends. Reich citizens are a movement in Germany of people who believe the German Reich, or empire, of pre-World War II Germany still exists and they refuse to recognize all facets of the modern German governmental system. They have come under particular scrutiny following the shooting of four policemen, whom of whom died yesterday, by a Reich citizen in Bavaria during a police raid.
