PERU-WEATHER-ANIMAL-HEATWAVE-ZOO
A river otter (Myocastor coypus) feeds on fish and other meats packed in blocks of ice at the Legends Park Zoo in Huachipa, eastern Lima on February 23, 2024. To cope with the overwhelming heatwave, the zoo opted for an imaginative alternative: placing apples, carrots and meat inside large blocks of ice. "It is a strategy that is being used to ensure the well-being of our animals in this time of quite hot weather that we are all suffering", biologist Sonia Rivera from the Legends Park Zoo told AFP.
