Oostpoort (Eastern Gate) in Delft, Netherlands - stock photo
Oostpoort (Eastern Gate) in Delft, Netherlands, is a Brick Gothic northern European architectural landmark built around 1400. The gate’s twin towers were expanded in the early 16th century with octagonal floors and pointed spires. This is the only remaining city gate of Delft, as others were demolished in the 19th century. The red lions flanking the clock’s shield are heraldic symbols of the Dutch Republic. Historically part of the city’s fortifications, the gate now serves as a private residence and art gallery. The date “1695” below the clock likely marks a restoration or installation event.
