Thousands rally in Amsterdam against racism and far-right policies
AMSTERDAM, THE NETHERLANDS - MAR. 22: Thousands of demonstrators gathered in Amsterdam on Saturday, Mar. 22, to protest against the far right, chanting anti-racism slogans and voicing support for refugees.
More than 10,000 demonstrators packed Dam Square, according to local media.
The protest, organized by Comité 21 Maart, took place as part of the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination observed annually on March 21.
The day was established by the United Nations (UN) to commemorate the victims of the Sharpeville Massacre in South Africa in 1960, when police opened fire on peaceful demonstrators protesting apartheid-era pass laws, killing 69 people.
Since then, the day has served as a global call to combat racial discrimination and promote equality. Events and demonstrations are held worldwide to raise awareness of ongoing racial injustices and advocate for inclusive policies.
